PARENTS
It is never too early to begin teaching your child about safety. Whether it
is crime prevention, drug and alcohol education or stranger danger, one little conversation
can help your family handle dangerous situations. A preschooler can learn
a
telephone number, address, and how to call 911. An older child can learn more
complex safety skills, which can lead to making important life saving decisions.
Encourage your child to talk about their feelings. Keep an open dialogue going
by asking them about their day, events and friends that are important to them.
Make it safe to share their feelings - especially about the things that make them
scared, embarrassed or sad. This will make it easier for them to tell you
about potentially frightening or uncomfortable situations they've encountered.
Prepare yourself for the fight to keep your
children safe, secure and drug free!
